The 2009 All-Advertiser volleyball team features both star power and versatility.

Jemison senior Tabatha Cork is listed as a hitter but filled in admirably at setter when teammate Kasi Wells, both a first-team selection and the Advertiser’s Player of the Year, missed matches with an injury.

Isabella junior Heather Mason is as home playing defense as attacking, and Chilton County sophomore Lauren Stewart, perhaps the county’s best young player and the only player not a senior or junior to make the first or second team, played both hitter and setter.

For her part, Wells filled up the stat sheet in five different categories.

Finally, another Isabella junior, Amber Wyatt, played the middle blocker position but is also skilled as a hitter.

Because of their skills at several different positions, an effort was made to include the area’s six best players on the first team, regardless of their primary position during the season.

Selections were made based on coaches’ nominations, statistics and team success.
