The Collins Chapel community will be aglow with activity Saturday as neighbors come together to ring in the Christmas season.

The fun begins at 5 p.m. with caroling in Collins Chapel Community Park. At 5:15, a parade of fire trucks will make its way from the Chilton Research and Extension Center down to Collins Chapel Fire Department. Riding atop one of the trucks will be a familiar white-bearded fellow.

Motorists on County Road 29 should take note of the parade time because the road is not officially closed. The parade includes vehicles from several area departments.

At 5:30, friends and neighbors will gather at the park for a first-ever Christmas tree lighting. Following the lighting, Santa will be in the fire station to meet and greet kids until 7:30.

“There will be something for everyone to do,” said Mike Minor, Collins Chapel Fire Chief. “It’s going to be hopefully a spectacular night for everybody.”

The growing event is part of a larger effort to spur community involvement in the Collins Chapel area. Several public meetings have been held recently to discuss the community’s future. Another meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 3 at Petals from the Past at 6 p.m.

Coordinators hope for a big turnout at all events, especially for Saturday’s tree lighting.
