Interested in a free haircut? How about a basic health exam or an eye exam? You will find all that and more at Saturday’s Health and Hair Fair at the Clanton City Park football field from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Six licensed cosmetologists will be giving free haircuts to as many people as possible, and the first 150 people will get a free lunch.

The fair also includes an American Red Cross blood drive, glucose checks, blood pressure checks, information on prescription medication programs and other money-saving tips.

The first-time event is Lomax Assembly of God’s way of giving back to the community, church member Chris Gray said.

“With the economy like it is now, we just felt that we wanted to educate the community on free services that are there for them,” Gray said. “These are things that can help ease people’s budgets.”

There will be coupons from different groups, door prizes, giveaways, and even entertainment for the kids provided by the church’s children’s ministry.

“We will have something for all ages,” Gray said.

Services will be provided by the Red Cross, home health and hospice groups, Southern Care, Sav-A-Life Shelby, Sunlight Ministries Homeless Shelter, Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging, Medico, and Angel Food Ministries.

The Health and Hair Fair is open to the public, and admission is free.

“We do plan on making this an annual event,” Gray said.
