A little earlier on Monday, Amy Springer picked up her first win as Isabella’s girls basketball coach, 44-29 over Verbena.

The Mustangs (1-2) had five players that scored at least six points but no more than nine. Kimi Jones and Kimberly Littleton scored nine, and Felicia Brasher, Khadijah Craig and Sherrell Wilson all had six points.

Littleton had a team-high 10 rebounds, and Jones made five out of six free throw attempts in the fourth period.

Craig had nine rebounds. Springer moved Craig, a freshman, up from the junior varsity team because two regular post players, Amber Wyatt and Zanday Wilson, did not play.

“At least now we know what we need to work on,” Springer said. “We played Thursday, Friday and Monday, so we haven’t had a chance to correct anything.

“When you’ve only had a week and a half to put everything in, you’re not good at anything. But I told them it’s a marathon. We want to be ready for Dec. 5—our first area game.”

Marquiska Deramus led Verbena with 14 points.
