Three county residents face charges of making methamphetamine at a home in Clanton.

Acie Bufurd Edwards Jr. of Clanton, Neil Allen Edwards of Clanton and David Allen Courtney of Verbena were arrested Saturday on charges of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance. All three men were being held in the Chilton County Jail on $10,000 bond apiece.

Clanton police found the defendants burning Sudafed boxes in a back yard in the 100 block of Friendship Road and cooking what appeared to be meth, said Police Chief Brian Stilwell.

Detectives recovered a large quantity of meth oil along with chemicals to make the drug, according to Stilwell.

A private hazardous materials cleaning crew responded to tear down the lab and collect the chemicals.

“Methamphetamine is a very dangerous drug, and the making of meth is even more dangerous,” said Stilwell. “One of the jars recovered by the Haz Mat personnel was in such a hazardous state that it was close to exploding.”
