Chilton County found it could move the ball against Briarwood Christian School. They just had trouble holding onto it in the 39-14 loss in North Shelby County.

The Tigers fumbled the ball five times, and four of those were picked up by Briarwood defenders.

Chilton County started the game with a nice drive, including converting a 4th-and-short from Briarwood’s 30-yard-line. The momentum was stopped a few players later when the Tigers lost the ball at the 24-yard line.

Chilton County’s defense held though, forcing the Lions to punt. However, the team fumbled again near midfield.

The teams traded punts before Wilson Whorton kicked a 32-yard field goal to put Briarwood up 3-0 early in the second quarter.

The Lions would do all the scoring for some time after the field goal.

Briarwood led 25-0 when Chilton County got on the board with an 8-yard pass from Taylor Hughes to T.J. Henley.

The Lions then scored two more touchdowns to lead 39-6 before J.J. Agee added a 3-yard rushing touchdown in the final two mintues to the game.

The game was competeive on paper, until you look at turnovers.

The Tigers had 17 first downs, compared to Briarwood’s 10.

Chilton County out rushed Briarwood, 201 yards to 97.

The Lions did light it up through the air though, throwing for 280 yards compared to the Tigers’ 127.

Hughes finished the night as the game’s leading rusher with 108 yards on 24 attempts. Agee had 68 yards on 11 carries.

Hughes was 8-of16 passing for 107 yards, with one TD and two interceptions.

Agee lead the team in receptions with 44 yards on three catches.
