Enrichment students at Clanton Intermediate School got their creativity flowing in a pumpkin decorating contest.

Submitted works ranged from a cheeseburger to chicken pox to classic characters such as Winnie the Pooh.

The contest has been held for several years, and this year’s was one of the best, enrichment teacher Tammy Price said.

“It gets more competitive each year. They’re naturally creative kids, and this is a good project to display their creativity.”

First, second and third place winners were announced in grades 3-5. An honorable mention was also named for each grade.

One of the most creative entrants was Carter Giles, who carved a pirate ship and used a large leaf for the ship’s sail. Giles’ entry received a “One of a Kind” award and would have likely placed high in the competition, except that the pumpkins were not supposed to be carved.

The students got to take home their pumpkins Thursday.
