Fall fun abounds this week

Whether you plan to attend a fall festival, continue your quest for the great pumpkin, or perhaps something scarier, there are plenty of fall activities for all ages in Chilton County.

Burnette Farms hosts a haunted warehouse and a 6-acre corn maze on select nights. The warehouse is a 20-minute trip through twisting hallways and stairways, and the maze has plenty more twists and turns.

This is the farms’ fourth year to host the attractions.

“Attendance has increased every year,” said co-owner Mary Charles Burnette. “It’s really picking up with different ads and word of mouth.”

Burnette Farms, located on Highway 31 just south of Thorsby, is open Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 29, 30 and 31 at 7:30 each night. Admission is $10 to enter the haunted warehouse and $5 for the corn maze.

While there is no official age limit, Burnette recommends the activities for children ages 10 and up.

“It’s not a carnival,” she said.

The Sunshine Farms Mulberry Creek Homestead is open all month long with plenty for all ages to do. Admission is $10 to do it all. The facility will be open Oct. 31 from 1-5 p.m.

Anyone desiring more information may visit their Web site at www.sunshinefarms.com.

The Grand Ole Pumpkin Patch is also open for the entire month of October with hayrides, inflatable rides, petting zoo, pony rides, mule and wagon rides, gospel singings and helicopter rides.

Owner Bobby Payton said he expects between 5,000 and 8,000 people next weekend.

The Pumpkin Patch, located on Highway 145 across from Jeff State Community College, is open weekdays from 8-5, Saturdays from 8 a.m. until sunset, and Sundays from 12:30 until sunset.
