Billingsley keeps it close with Holy Spirit

Billingsley let a game against Holy Spirit High School slip away in the fourth quarter Friday night.

The Bears and Holy Spirit went back and forth all night, but Billingsley led 19-18 with 3:53 left to go in the game.

The comeback and two late touchdowns by Holy Spirit put the game away, 30-19.

Holy Spirit took the early lead with a 3-yard quarterback keeper. The Bears answered quickly, though, with a 48-yard pass from Mario Reese to Raphael Brooks to tie the game, 6-6.

Two second quarter scores by Holy Spirit put the game at 18-6 going into the lockerroom at half time.

Billingsley still had plenty of fight left. Reese scored off a 2-yard run to draw closer, 18-13, with 9:33 left in the game.

Reese again found the end zone with 3:53 left to go in the game.

Holy Spirit shot back with a 70-yard touchdown and then scored again off an interception to seal the win.

Reese finished the night with 54 yards on the ground. Brooks lead in passing with 82 yards on three passes.
