Seven high school marching bands will converge on Marbury High School’s football field Monday night for the annual Chilton County Area Night of Bands.

At 6 p.m., bands from Chilton County High School, Isabella, Jemison High, Maplesville, Marbury, Thorsby and Verbena will perform the national anthem.

Then, starting with the smallest band, each will perform their halftime show.

The Night of Bands is not a competition but simply an opportunity for high school bands to perform. Proceeds from the event go to fund trips for the Chilton County Area Honor Band.

“If you haven’t been to one of the Night of Bands performances before, you are really missing out,” said event coordinator Stephen Pounders. “All of these children start in July working on their shows to perfect them for the individual contests they go to. We all work hard to give a great half time show for our home crowds. This night is for all of the band students, percussion lines, color guards, dance lines, and majorettes to show off their talents.”

Pounders said the real treat will be at the end, when all the bands will come together as one to perform.

“This time each instrument will gather with like instruments to form one giant concert band,” he explained. “Each drum major from each school will direct one song that their band performs during the year. The great thing is that all 350-plus band students play it together. It’s really loud!”

The cost for parking is $3. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for school-age children and free to those not in school yet. Concessions will also be available.
