Maplesville’s Red Devils (6-1) shut out Akron (0-7) Friday night, 32-0, in a rain-delayed game at George Walker Field.

The Red Devils held the Rams to 19 yards total offense. The Red Devils unofficially chewed up 212 yards rushing and passed for 51 yards. The Rams were never in the contest.

The game began an hour and 19 minutes late due to thunderstorms that passed through the Maplesville area. The coaches agreed the first quarter would run 12 minutes, the second quarter would run eight minutes and the last two quarters would be six minutes each.

James Madsen passed two yards to Edwin Pettiway for the first Red Devil score with 9:43 left in the first quarter. John Atchison kicked the Devils’ seventh point.

Twenty-one seconds later, Madsen passed 21 yards to Pettiway for another Red Devil score. The score was set up with a fumble recovery on Maplesville’s kick to Akron.

Brintain Hill ran 20 yards for Maplesville’s third touchdown at the 4:47 mark in the first quarter. Hunter McCay scored on the first play of the second quarter from six yards out, putting the Red Devils in control, 26-0.

McCay scored the game’s final touchdown on a 45-yard run late in the half, ending scoring at 32-0.

The win should allow Maplesville to keep its No. 4 ranking in the state’s 1A division. The win gives Maplesville a 5-1 record in Region 3.
