Billingsley scored early and hung on late for a 6-0 homecoming win over A.L. Johnson on Friday.

The game was delayed about 1:30 because of inclement weather.

The Bears (4-3, 4-3 Class 1A, Region 3) scored with 3:29 remaining in the first quarter on a 3-yard Mario Reese quarterback sneak.

The visiting Eagles (4-3, 3-2) threatened late, but Billingsley’s Carlos Caver intercepted a pass in his own end zone with 6:03 left in the game to seal the victory.

Neither team could get much going offensively on a sloppy field.

Billingsley amassed 101 total yards, and A.L. Johnson could muster only 89 yards.

Jimmy Lanier was Billingsley’s leading rusher with six carries for 28 yards.

Reese finished with three completions in five attempts for 28 yards.

Reggie Browder paced the Bears defense with 10 tackles and one sack.

Billingsley next week visits region foe Holy Spirit.
