All Chilton County public schools, including LeCroy Career/Technical Center, will host parent visitation Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Visitation at elementary, middle and high schools will be held from 1-7 p.m. All parents should have received a notice informing them of the opportunity to meet with teachers, administrators and other parents.

Parents may pick up their child’s report card, discuss any problems with teachers, or ask questions about the education process.

Tommy Glasscock, director of LeCroy Career/Tech, said the school invites business and industry representatives to mingle with students and parents during the event. The purpose of this is to discuss career/tech progress and job opportunities.

“This gives us a chance to show off our new facilities and some of the new technology we’ve got,” he said.

Last year, about 300 people attended LeCroy’s visitation and enjoyed free hotdogs and drinks. Glasscock said refreshments will also be offered this year.

“The hotdogs are an encouragement for the parents to come out and see how their students are doing,” he said.

Visitation at LeCroy is scheduled from 3-7 p.m.

Some schools will host special guests Tuesday. Maplesville High School will welcome Shelley Stewart of the Mattie C. Stewart Foundation and author of “The Road South: A Memoir.”

Stewart will speak in the school’s auditorium from 4:30-5:45 p.m. A question and answer session will follow from 5:45 until 6.

Throughout the day, Maplesville will also host informative workshops such as how to understand test scores, how to help with homework, how to keep from spreading the flu, and more.

“We could hold parent conferences anytime throughout the year, but we wanted to do something a little bit different,” said Maplesville Principal Maggie Hicks. “We wanted to broaden the understanding of issues that are going on in our community today.”
