As former citizens of the year themselves, the group that decided to honor Chilton County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Penny Broussard certainly knew what it was doing.

Broussard downplayed her accomplishments—”I know there are many other people out there who deserve this honor,” she said at the meeting—but she is deserving indeed.

Broussard was chosen by a selection committee that is made up of former C.I.T.Y. Program citizens of the year.

The organization, which is designed to help at-risk students stay in school and graduate, will hold a banquet to recognize Broussard at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Alabama Power Company’s auditorium.
