About 4,000 people attended the first three nights of the Chilton County Fair this week, event organizers estimated.

If you haven’t been able to make it out to the fair grounds, don’t worry. The fair continues through Saturday night, opening at 6 p.m. Friday night and an hour early at 5 on Saturday night.

And, as usual, there are new rides and new events for this year.

“We’ve had very good attendance,” said Melinda McCullough, fair committee chairperson with the Clanton Kiwanis Club.

A popular new ride is the Thunderbolt, which features cars riding over hills and valleys.

Other activities include a rock climbing wall, along new for this year, and the ever-popular demolition derby, which was held Tuesday night.

“The Chilton County Fair does a good job,” Russ Kissel, co-owner of Kissel Entertainment, said Thursday. “Good people come out each year. I’d say it’s one of the best fairs we do in the state of Alabama.”

Admission is $3 per person, and tickets are $1 apiece. Armbands are sold for $15 apiece and allow anyone to ride all the rides an unlimited number of times that night.

McCullough pointed out that proceeds from the fair are donated to local charities.

“It’s not something we’re trying to make a profit off of. All the money is given back to good causes,” she said.

A bluegrass and gospel singing will be held at the fair Friday night from 7-9. Saturday’s events are the beef show at 3 p.m. (before gates open), followed by the Fair Queen Pageant at 6.
