Jemison didn’t get to play a volleyball match Tuesday as scheduled, but that was OK with coach Leighsa Robinson.

The home date with Class 4A, Region 7 foe Calera was cancelled because officials were not present. If the match is made up, it could be to Jemison’s benefit because injured setter Kasi Wells could be back in uniform.

The Panthers are 5-0 in area play, slightly ahead of 4-1 Holt in the race to host the area tournament. So, in fairness, the Jemison-Calera match should be made up, but the next available date for both teams, Oct. 7, would be past the date mandated for all regular season contests to be played.

Robinson said she would ask for an exemption to be granted by the Alabama High School Athletics Association for the match to be played—and that the match would be moved to Calera.

“We’re going to need one more game to decide who’s going to host the area tournament,” Robinson said.

It benefits the Panthers that Wells could be back for the match.

The junior has suffered from shin splints but could be cleared to play next week.

“It’s like losing your quarterback,” Robinson said. “Tabatha [Cork] came in a did a good job for us, but we need [Wells] for the county tournament and the playoffs.”
