Cliff Ousley and Tyler Carter represented Chilton County well as they took home the top two positions in the Hillbilly Classic Enduro on Sept. 27.

Ousley and Carter rode on the same row, and when the race was over, only 29 seconds separated the two.

Carter was also second overall in the earlier Clanton enduro held this year, and Ousley was third.

These two bested the field of 245 competitors from all over the South.

The conditions for this event were not the most favorable by any means, but that is what racing is all about. It is a test of endurance to the end under whatever conditions.

Edwin Petty spent most of Sunday afternoon using his dozer to pull motorhomes out of the slick grass and mud.

Other local competitors were Jacob Davis and Neal Ousley, who finished second and fourth, respectively, in the junior class; Jason Copeland and Jason Brasington, third and fourth in Vet B; Brian Duke, second in 4-stroke B; Chris McMillan, second in 4-stroke A; Brad Belcher, second in 45+ Sr. Short; John Huggins, second in Sr. B; Jonathan Seales, fourth in 200B; Brian Lewis, third in Vet. C; Chris Aultman, sixth in Open C; Ted Anz (major crash), sixth in Sr. B; Tommy Seales, seventh in SSR. A; Jack Willis, did not finish; Michael Caver, DNF; and Chad Earl, DNF.

The kids races on Saturday featured some local competitors as well.

After a short lightning and rain delay, the races began.

Neal Ousley set the standard for his big brother Cliff by winning the Vet Kids class by a margin of 8 seconds over Brennen Reed of Louisiana.

Harrison Caver claimed the third spot on the podium in the Intermediate Kids class.

Austin Anz and Ethan Gregg finished second and third in the Pee Wee class.

Kelsey Duke claimed third in the Girls class and was happy to see the race come to an end because the course was very muddy.

The older kids rode on a 5-mile loop while the younger ones only had to contend with 1.1 miles of the mud.

The next Southern Enduro Riders Association event is a hare scramble in Billingsley this weekend. The season finale in the enduros will be the Gobbler Getter in Reynolds Pasture on Halloween weekend.
