A new event at this year’s Chilton County Fair will help local people in need.

The Chilton County Fair Queen Pageant will take place Saturday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

The pageant is sponsored by the Miss Chilton County Queens for the purpose of raising money for their community service charity sponsorship.

“Last year the queens got involved with the Arthritis Walk,” said Danny Carter of the Clanton Evening Lions Club, sponsor of Miss Chilton County. “That’s a tradition I’d like to see continue is our queens supporting a local charity.”

There will be three age divisions: Little Miss — kindergarten through fourth grade; Junior Miss — grades five through eight; and Miss — grades nine through 12. Each division will contain a queen, three alternates and a photogenic winner.

The cost is $20 for the pageant, $5 for photogenic or $25 for both. All applications may be turned in to C&C Trophy & Sign between now and Oct. 2. Only Chilton County residents may participate.

Applications may be obtained from C&C Trophy & Sign or The Clanton Advertiser office.

Carter said the charity has not been selected but it will be a local charity.

“The (Miss Chilton County) queens assist in the show each year by presenting ribbons,” Carter said. “We thought this would be a good opportunity for the clubs to work together.”

The Chilton County Fair is sponsored by the Clanton Kiwanis. The fair is from Sept. 28 through Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. nightly and 5 p.m. Saturday night.
