The Chilton County High football team on Friday played host Gardendale to a 14-14 tie until the game was postponed with 3:20 remaining in the first half because of lightning.

The visiting Tigers (1-3 overall, 0-2 Class 5A, Region 3) didn’t fare nearly as well when play was resumed Saturday, losing 23-14.

CCHS scored in the first half on runs by senior quarterback Taylor Hughes, one from 8 yards out in the first quarter and the other from 56 yards out in the second quarter.

Antonio Chavez added both extra points but wouldn’t get another chance on Saturday.

CCHS rushed 51 times for more than 200 yards—and even recorded 15 first downs to Gardendale’s 10 but was hurt by two lost fumbles.

Hughes finished 6-of-17 for 83 yards.
