The historic railroad depot in Maplesville has received a facelift.

Now that the renovation project is complete, a portion of the building will be used as a museum for the town.

The Maplesville Senior Center will continue to meet in the building.

“We came out a little under budget on that project, so we’re in good shape,” Maplesville Mayor Kurt Wallace said.

The town council voted this week to give $500 to the Maplesville Historical Society to give them a jumpstart toward furnishing the museum.

The two front rooms will be used for this purpose, Wallace said.

In other business, the town approved a new hire for the police department in Scott Conner. Conner, a 10-year veteran with the Covington County Sheriff’s Department, will begin work Oct. 1.

Wallace also announced that the town would be repairing potholes throughout the town’s streets next week.
