Thorsby had enough fight on Tuesday to force a decisive fifth game against Shelby County High but not enough to win the match.

The Rebels (6-5) took a 6-0 lead in the last game but watched the visitors come all the way back to win, 15-9.

“Instead of wanting to be the person to make the next play, we wait for someone else to do it,” coach Ginger Williams said. “Until we change that, we’ll continue to be as good as we are right now.”

The first four games went 25-23 Thorsby, 23-25, 22-25 and 25-15.

The Rebels held leads of 11-4 and 21-18 in the third game but couldn’t hold on.

Thorsby dominated in the fourth game, though, displaying its potential.

Shelby served first in Game 5 but ended the rally when a volley hit the rafters.

Holly Smith then served for five consecutive Thorsby points.

Sade’ Archie went up high for a kill to make it 11-7 SCHS but the hosts couldn’t make a run out of it.

Smith finished with 17 assists, four aces and four digs, and Archie had 11 kills.

Brittany Maddox contributed 11 digs, six kills and two blocks, while Michelle Hendrix had 11 digs and three aces.

Stephanie Moore added seven digs and three kills. Desiree Evans had six aces and three digs, and Kelsie Davis had six kills.

Next, Thorsby will host Marbury beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
