An upcoming golf tournament will help raise money for the Chilton County United Way annual fundraising campaign.

The Williams Companies, Inc. is sponsoring the tournament on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Montevallo Golf Course with tee time set to begin at 9 a.m.

Williams is an oil and gas pipeline company with a plant located in Billingsley. Its national headquarters are in Tulsa, Okla.

“I appreciate Williams for doing this,” Chilton County United Way Board chairman Curtis Smith said. “Whatever we raise, they’re going to match it. This is going to be a big help to us because this year it’s going to be a little harder.”

The cost is $70 per player. This includes 18 holes of golf, range balls, golf cart, breakfast and lunch, beverages, snacks, prizes and a donation to the United Way.

Participants are welcome to form their own team or join an existing team.

Even those who don’t play golf are encouraged to become a sponsor at one of various levels. Hole sponsorship includes signage and one golfer, and beverage cart sponsorship includes signage.

“This should get us off to a good start with our 2009 campaign,” Smith said.
