After wins over both Calera and host Montevallo on Thursday, Isabella volleyball coach Glen Graham thinks his young team may be realizing its potential.

“It was an overall team effort,” Graham said. “We were able to be in our system most of the night, which makes a big difference for us.

“Of course, our goal is to be at our best at the end October, not the end of August.”

The Mustangs, who returned only three starters from last year’s team, are now 6-2.

They defeated Montevallo 25-22, 25-15 and Calera 25-10, 25-23.

Amber Wyatt had 22 kills on the night, many with the help of Jessica Maciel, who had 23 assists in two matches.

Heather Mason added 11 assists, and Kaylynn Culp had six aces.

Isabella hosts St. Jude and Billingsley beginning at 5 p.m. on Sept. 8.
