The residents of County Road 138 in the Oak Grove community will not have to wait much longer to get their road paved.

The community, located in north Jemison, was recently annexed into the city.

Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed said the city is also close to installing water lines in the neighborhood.

“We want to get people up there out of the dirt and dust as soon as possible,” Reed said. “We do know this project is going along fairly well.”

Monday night, the city council accepted a proposal from Chilton Contractors to begin Phase 2 of the project, which will be the final phase. Council member Robert Morris explained to residents present at the meeting that it will take some time for the road to settle.

In the meantime, a gravel material will be placed in the area.

In other business, the city is preparing to resurface Adams Street and Debra Street, council member George Brasher announced.

Brasher also said several “no passing” signs will be placed in several locations along County Road 42 and County Road 44.

The council also voted to use $5,000 in rescue money toward the city’s rescue van.

All Jemison residents should note that a public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25 on the city’s zoning ordinance. The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jemison High School auditorium.
