The Lions Club is trying to reorganize its Maplesville chapter.

District Governor Bobby Bynon Jr. said the chapter has had a vital role in the community, but has since went inactive.

“The Maplesville Lions Club has been prominent in the community and surrounding area,” Bynon said. “It is inactive at this time and the district wants to help it reorganize and regain the momentum it had several years ago.”

The Maplesville Lions Club was chartered in February 1998. The club performed eye screenings for approximately 160 children in 2008 at no cost to families.

An organizational meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3 at noon at the Maplesville Library on Main Street. All members and potential members are invited. The Lions Club District Governor will be present and door prizes will be handed out.

Lions Club International is the world’s largest service organization. The club has 1.4 million members in more than 45,000 clubs worldwide.

It is active in more than 200 counties and best known for fighting blindness, but volunteers also work in other projects, including disaster relief.
