No more water notices

The City of Clanton’s Water Department has discontinued mailing final notices to customers who are delinquent in paying their water bills.

The city’s utility board passed a motion Monday to stop mailing the final notices, which has been done as a courtesy to those who fail to pay water bills on time.

City Clerk Debbie Orange said the cutoff date for paying water bills is the 15th day of the month unless the 15th falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

“When the 15th of the month falls on a weekend,” Orange explained, “the cutoff date to pay will be the following Monday.”

The City of Clanton charges a $10 late fee to customers who do not pay water bills by the cutoff date. Additional fees are charged to reinstate customers who have had their water cut off due to non-payment. Failure to pay water bills within the prescribed payment period can lead to customers’ water service being terminated.
