Area schools invited to show colors

Think of it as a giant, countywide pep rally.

Lomax Assembly of God is inviting all the county’s schools to participate in a first-time event this Saturday called Show Your Colors. All students, high school athletes, coaches, faculty and fans are invited.

Activities will include a drum-off, battle of the trenches, quarterback challenge, power joust, and cheerleading competition. The event begins Saturday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the church building.

“Our goal is simply to provide our schools an exciting atmosphere to show off their team spirit through interactive fan support and competitive games while at the same time presenting a positive message for Christ,” said Youth Pastor Erron Price.

During the drum-off, each school’s drum line will perform for the audience. Unknown judges will judge each performance on quality rather than quantity. Then, the drum lines will lead their schools in a spirit competition.

The battle of the trenches pits linemen from each school against each other in a timed pizza eating contest. Each lineman will have a large pizza in front of him.

The quarterback challenge is pretty self-explanatory. Quarterbacks from each school’s football team will throw at targets placed around the room at various distances.

The power joust is for the wide receivers, defensive backs and running backs. This event will include large, inflatable pugil sticks.

Price said there will also be a cheerleading competition.

“Basically, we’re trying to include everyone on the squad,” he explained. “The whole night’s really going to be high energy.”

Price will speak briefly near the end of the event.
