Mary Ray

Mary Forbus Ray, 97, of Clanton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, 17 days before her 98th birthday.

She was born on Aug. 26, 1911 in Elmore County, daughter of Sebron Edward Forbus and Rosa Thornton Forbus.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Hosie Allen Ray Sr.; a son, James Lowell Ray; daughter-in-law, Nina Beahn Ray McNeilly; son-in-law, Charles Franklin Gilliland Sr.; great grandson, Benjamin Shelly; two sisters; and four brothers.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; LC Ray and wife Mary Alice Mims Ray; Hosie Allen Ray Jr. and wife Joyce Sewell Ray; Jimmy Frank Ray and wife Joy Kettler Ray. She is also survived by three daughters and one son-in-law; Mary Louise Ray Hopson; Clara Dean Ray Gilliland; Glenda Jean Ray Mims and husband Joseph Marvin Mims; in addition to 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services will be Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Roland Davis and the Rev. Randal Ray officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Springs Baptist Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home directing.
