W. Louise Thorne Smith
Louise Smith, daughter of Jacob and Margaret Ethel Thorne, was born Jan. 17, 1920. A native of Autauga County, she graduated from Marbury High School in 1939. She attended Jacksonville State Teachers College and she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Alabama College (University of Montevallo).
Louise began teaching school at Haynes Vida School and while working in the community, she met Ivan W. Smith in 1940. They married Aug. 7, 1943 and had two children, Janice Smith Farr and Ivan “Van” Wilfred II. They made their home in north Autauga County where she was active in her church and community. She retired from teaching at Billingsley School in May 1980. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
Louise is survived by her husband, Ivan W. Smith and their two children: Janice S. Farr and Van Smith; four grandchildren and one great-grandson: Jani Farr; Will, Brooke and Brody Smith; Zac Smith; and Grace Smith. Louise is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dr. Jack Farr, and daughter-in-law, Anna A. Smith.
The family will be receiving friends at Indian Grave Baptist Church, Billingsley, Aug. 4 at 1:30 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m.
