Two local educators will represent their schools at the state level in the Alabama Association of Career Technical Educators (AACTE).

Becky Pierce, retired Family and Consumer Science teacher at Chilton County High School; and Clayton Spencer, agriscience teacher at Billingsley School, were two of five people elected as officers with the organization for the next three years.

Pierce will serve as secretary/treasurer, while Spencer will serve as president elect for one year, then president, and finally as past president.

“I feel it’s an honor that career/technical educators feel I was fitting to be elected to this position, having been a career/tech teacher for the last 37 years,” Spencer said.

Pierce, unable to be reached for comment, has previously served three terms as president of AACTE, as well as one term as Alabama Representative on the Region II Policy Committee. She has been an active member of the AACTE over the years.

Spencer has been the agriscience teacher at Billingsley since 1972, when he graduated from Auburn University with a degree in agricultural education. In 1979, he received his Master’s from Auburn.

During Spencer’s tenure at Billingsley School, nine young men and ladies have served as state FFA officers.

One of those, Charlie Jones, was vice president of the national FFA in 1996-1997, and about 20 have served as Central District FFA officers.

Spencer has served two terms as Central Alabama District Vice President of the Alabama Association of Agriscience Educators (AAAE), and just completed a three-year term as treasurer of the AAAE.

He recently started serving this third three-year term as a member of the Alabama FFA Advisory Committee.
