Healthy hearts

Wayne and Winky Touchstone believe a cardiovascular screening and non-prescription medication saved their lives, so they made the technology available Thursday to local residents.

The Touchstones visited the Jemison Fire Department to give a presentation on Heartfast cardiovascular medication and offer readings from a Digital Pulsewave Analyzer.

“You’ve got a gas gauge on your car that tells you when you’re going to run out of gas, but your body doesn’t have a gas gauge,” Wayne Touchstone told a crowd of about 20 people while also offering a frightening statistic: cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer in the United States with almost 2,600 people dying each day.

All that attended were offered free blood pressure, pulse rate and oxygen level checks, but DPA screenings cost $30.

The fire department hosted the presentation because its chief, Bobby Tucker, is also a believer in Heartfast.

“We don’t support a lot of things because of what we do, but I support this,” Tucker said.

Heartfast “has been formulated to assist your body in keeping your heart and blood healthy and operating in an optimum state,” a handout read. “Heartfast contains some very powerful and effective ingredients that work together to help accomplish this and Heartfast can significantly improve your cardiovascular health!”

The handout also included a disclaimer that the statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and that the product is not designed to treat cure or prevent any disease.
