Adults looking for an opportunity to increase their skills or prepare for the GED can take advantage of free night classes at the Maplesville Courthouse offered by Wallace Community College Selma.

Lula Snowden, director of adult education at Wallace, said the program focuses on three aspects of education: GED preparation, increasing reading, math and language skills and evaluating and boosting employability skills.

Snowden said they decided to hold classes in Maplesville because they thought there was a need in the area.

“We were having students to come from Maplesville to Selma or Maplesville to Clanton,” Snowden said. “It was just too far for students to drive.”

Snowden said students do not have to pay any fees or buy any supplies. The program provides everything from software to pencils.

The classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday from 5-8 p.m. on a continuous, year-round basis and have been in session since late spring.

Students attend an orientation when they first come to class, and can attend on a class-by-class basis. Those interested in attending the classes can contact Snowden at 334-876-9370.
