Police investigators are trying to determine whether two burglaries and one robbery Monday night in Clanton are connected.

A man robbed the Shell Sunny Food Store on U.S. 31 with a shotgun around 3:45 a.m.

AfterShocks electronics store and San Marcos restaurant were also both broken into overnight.

Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell said officers don’t know yet if the crimes are related.

Investigators are working all three cases and do have a suspect in the Shell robbery, Stilwell said. As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests had been made.

Shell manager DeAnn Pate said a man carrying a shotgun came into the store and made an employee put money from the register into a brown paper bag. The robber made off with around $340.

No customers were inside the store at the time, and no injuries were reported.

The man is described as white and around 6 feet 2 inches tall.

He was wearing a black hood and mask, completely covering his face, Pate said.

“He was a very scary creature, really,” she said.

Clanton police responded to a burglar alarm at After Shocks around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

When they arrived, the burglar was already gone.

Video surveillance shows a masked man entering the store from the backdoor. The man stole several speakers and amp kits in the two and a half minutes he was inside the business, owner Chad Seekers.

Someone tried to break into After Shocks last week, but fled after setting off alarms, Seekers said.

San Marcos staff realized their store had been broken into this morning. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the restaurant.

Efforts to reach owners at San Marcos were unsuccessful Tuesday afternoon.
