A three-day sting by the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies netted several arrests and well over 12,600 marijuana plants from across the county.

From Wednesday through Friday, July 8-10, Alabama National Guard helicopters assisted law enforcement in locating the plants, which were seized and burned during the operation.

Arrests are still being made as a result of the bust.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis indicated he believed the plants would have been distributed within the county. That’s a large amount of drugs that could have potentially ended up in the neighborhoods of Chilton County.

We are grateful to our law enforcement for keeping these drugs off our streets. Regardless of one’s opinion about marijuana, it is an illegal drug and these agencies did their duty by destroying these plants and punishing those who broke the law.

We applaud the teamwork of the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department, the Alabama Department of Public Safety, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Forestry Service.
