It might not count in the standings, but it can’t hurt.

Jemison’s Scott Clements on Thursday found Patrick Sims in the back left corner of the end zone for a game-winning, 25-yard touchdown pass with no time on the clock in the championship game of a 7-on-7 tournament hosted by Isabella. Jemison won, 35-30.

Though the games are only for practice and Jemison coach Brad Abbott was quick to point out that running the football and stopping the run are important traits of a successful team, Abbott also said his team’s impressive showing—the Panthers went 7-0—could help build confidence.

“Scott threw the ball well, and we made some good catches,” Abbott said. “It did some good things for us. There was good competition here. We learned how to play tired. We had a good day.”

Isabella was the runner-up. The Mustangs finished with a 4-2 record in tournament play. Other records were: Chilton County High junior varsity, 2-2; Shades Mountain, 2-2; Thorsby, 1-2; Wadley, 1-2; Isabella junior varsity, 0-2; and Jemison junior varsity, 0-2.

Prattville participated in pool play but not the tournament.

CCHS won a linemen challenge that was also held at the camp.

Thorsby finished second, Isabella was third and Shades Mountain was fourth.
