Expect delays along U.S. 31

Drivers along U.S. 31 between Clanton and Verbena will need some patience the next few weeks — and maybe a good air conditioner.

Delays can be expected as crew resurface 10 miles of the federal highway.

Wiregrass Construction out of Montgomery is doing the work.

Foreman Mickey Phillips said the project, which started two weeks ago, will last at least another month.

His advice to drivers: “Be patient.”

Crews are currently paving the southbound lane about halfway between Clanton and Verbena, reducing the road to just one lane during working days.

When workers finish in Verbena, they will come back toward Clanton and pave the northbound lane.

On Tuesday, delays ranged from five to 10 minutes.
