When Anna Calhoun of Clanton heard her named called as the winner of the 2009 Young Miss Peach crown Monday night, she clasped her hands in front of her face in disbelief.

“I did not know what to say. It was really amazing,” Anna said.

Twenty years earlier, Anna’s mother, then Sherri Minor, heard her name called as the 1989 Miss Peach.

Needless to say, she was excited to see her 10-year-old daughter follow in her footsteps Monday night.

“I know what a good time I had my year, and I hope she’s as blessed and has as good of a time as I did,” Sherri said after the pageant.

As tradition calls for every June, the 2008 Young Miss Peach Queen Hanna Wilson passed on the crown to Anna during the ceremonies.

During the photo sessions following the pageant, Anna kept fanning herself, and the other members of the court waved their hands up and down to keep her cool.

Anna’s court includes: first alternate, Leah Easterling; second alternate, Sophie Underwood; third alternate, Madi Price; and fourth alternate, Lexi Gray (also the casual wear winner).

Anna is the daughter of Jason and Sherri Calhoun of Clanton.
