Jeff Traywick and Paul Traywick raked in more than $2,000 Saturday at the Peach Classic fishing tournament but couldn’t win the biggest prize: a new Blazer bass boat from Gene’s Marine in Montgomery.

The Traywicks took the top weight prize, and the $1,500 that came with it, by catching five fish that combined to weigh 15.74 pounds. The top prize was donated by CRH. Paul Traywick also caught the day’s biggest bass, at 5.68 pounds. That earned the Traywicks another $540.

The pair said they fished Carolina-rigged worms and lizards.

The tournament winners earned the right to draw for a new bass boat, but the Traywicks’ luck had run out by that time.

The Traywicks said they have fished in every Peach Classic, which is hosted by the Rotary Club of Chilton County at Lake Mitchell. The launch and weigh-in were at Higgins Ferry Park.

Michael Hunter and Matt Box finished in second place with a total weight of 13.79 pounds. That earned them $750 donated by Stokes and A Easy Way Out bail bonds.

Jason Nixon and Bart Hart finished in third place with a total weight of 13.58 pounds. That earned them $500 donated by Central Alabama Electric Co-op.

Shane Underwood and Shane Mitchell finished in fourth place with a total weight of 12.45 pounds. That earned them $250 donated by Peoples Southern Bank.

Door prizes were donated by Gene’s Marine, B and B Auctions, Rotary Club members, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts and Fastenal of Clanton.
