Roads in downtown Clanton will be closed beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, June 26, as more than 90 vendors begin setting up for the Peach Jam Jubilee.

Sixth Street from Clanton Furniture to just north of C & C Trophy and Second Avenue North from the stoplight to the Colonial Bank drive-thru will be rerouted in preparation for the event, which begins at 6 p.m. The bank’s drive-thru will remain open until 4 p.m.

All of the stores along those roads will remain open.

Dancers from Senior Connect will kick off the Peach Jam at 5:45 p.m., and the musical entertainment will begin at 6 p.m.

The musical lineup includes Soundshifter, Chilton County High School’s Blast from the Past, local band Southern Pride and Act of Congress, a regional contemporary bluegrass band.

There will also be a variety of vendors at the Peach Jam.

“We have everything from barbecue to face painting to the National Guard Busch car,” said Penny Broussard, executive director for the Chamber of Commerce

The event will also feature something for the kids.

“The parking lot behind City Hall will be our kiddy-ride area,” Broussard said. The area will have a slide, a rock-climbing wall, swings, inflatables and other kid-friendly activities, and will cost $10 to enter and participate in unlimited activities and rides.

The Peach Jam Jubilee itself has no admission fee but will still boost the local economy.

“There’s a significant impact because a lot of people will come in and stay in hotels, and then go to the parade and the peach auction,” Broussard said.

As hundreds of people gather downtown, the local businesses receive visibility from the event, which they hope will help future business.

“We hope for back-end impact for local merchants,” Broussard said.

Broussard said some of the downtown-area restaurants will stay open later the night of the Peach Jam and have been known to run out of food due to the volume of customers.
