Jemison’s junior varsity baseball team won the battle of who could make the most mistakes Wednesday—and lost the game in the process.

The Panthers fell to LAMP, 8-6, though they held a 5-0 lead after three innings of the five-inning game.

Jemison’s Nick Campbell and Matt Phillips both walked in the bottom of the second inning and scored on LAMP errors.

The Panthers expanded their lead the next inning when Matt Murphy doubled to lead things off, Shane Howard and Jacob Bass followed with consecutive walks, and, one out later, Chase McCary, Brian Porter and Josh Bivens recorded consecutive singles.

But the visitors would take advantage of Jemison miscues to score four runs—on only one hit—in the top of the fifth and chase starting pitcher McCary.

Jemison seemingly added an insurance run in the bottom half when Phillips laid down a bunt to score courtesy runner Javae Swindle and give the hosts a 6-4 lead.

Defensive miscues cost Jemison again, though, as LAMP pushed five runs across in the top of the fifth and final inning. Jemison could not mount a rally.

Bass was 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.

Both McCary and Phillips recorded both a run scored and an RBI.

Bass was the losing pitcher, giving up four runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings pitched.

Jemison’s varsity and JV squads will host Bibb County

High beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.
