The Jemison City Council met Monday night and adopted the 2009 International Building Code, which replaces the 2003 International Building Code.

The amended ordinance goes into effect immediately upon adoption and publication as required by law.

“We have to adopt these new codes because we are part of the International Building Code,” Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed said.

The council also approved a transfer of Jemison Police Officer Josh Hughes from part-time to full-time at the request of Chief of Police Shane Fulmer.

The council also awarded low bids to E&E Acoustical and Drywall, Inc. for ceiling and drywall in the amount of $26,964 and to The Martin Service Company for electrical work in the amount of $9,378.
