Going the extra mile

In the summer, chances for a basketball team to improve itself don’t come along often.

One such opportunity was a “play day” hosted Monday by Verbena.

Chilton County High played three games, defeating Clay-Chalkville and Booker T. Washington and losing to Dallas County High.

Verbena lost to Brantley, 78-30, in its first contest and was scheduled to play three more games, against Reeltown, B.B. Comer and Luverne.

The Red Devils didn’t score until Jason Ray’s rebound and putback 2:80 into the game.

Ray wound up with eight points, and Verbena was led by Brad Boswell’s 12 points.

Josh Williams had 12 points to pace CCHS over Clay, 42-33, but six other Tigers scored at least three points.
