Several candidates for state office have confirmed appearances at the 2009 Chilton County Peach Parade.

Among those scheduled to appear are: GOP gubernatorial candidate Tim James, Alabama Attorney General Republican candidate Luther Strange, and Republican candidate for State Senate District 14 Rep. Cam Ward.

Also attending will be State Sen. Hank Erwin (R-Montevallo), who has announced his bid for lieutenant governor.

“This year will be a big campaigning year,” said event coordinator David Hicks of the Clanton Police Department. “I still expect between 75 to 80 entries.”

The parade will be Saturday, June 27 at 9 a.m. in downtown Clanton. Lineup is at 8 a.m. at Jack Hayes Field and Fred’s parking lot. The route will remain the same as in recent years.

Parade entry forms are available at The Clanton Advertiser, Clanton City Hall, Clanton Police Department, C&C Trophy and Sign, Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, Thorsby Town Hall and Jemison City Hall.

Entries should be postmarked no later than Tuesday, June 16. Each entry will be contacted prior to the parade with an assigned location in the lineup.

“Peach Pageant contestants might want to reserve a spot in the parade,” Hicks advised, because it is easier to cancel an entry than to make a spot at the last minute.

Immediately following the parade will be the Peach Auction and other activities at Jack Hayes Field.
