Peach Cook-Off set for June 20

Some Chilton County peaches, a well-equipped kitchen and a creative mind are all you need to participate in the 2009 Peach Festival Cook-Off.

The cook-off is set for Saturday, June 20 at the Thorsby First Baptist Church fellowship hall at 10 a.m.

There are two divisions — the adult division for age 20 and above, and the youth division for ages 9-19. Three winners in each division will receive cash prizes for their dishes.

But perhaps the best part of the Peach Festival Cook-Off is getting to taste all the delicious entries.

“We’ve had good response in the past and are sure we will this year,” said Elaine G. Staton, administrative assistant with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Chilton County office. “We would urge folks to prepare their favorite Chilton County peaches recipe and join in the competition. They will also be sure to enjoy the chef’s presentation.”

A chef will conduct a food demonstration during the judging portion of the program. Everyone is welcome to attend, even if you don’t plan on entering a dish. Seating is limited, however.

Registration forms and cook-off rules are available from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Chilton County office. Completed forms are due to the extension office by June 15.
