Devils in training

Verbena lost three basketball games Tuesday, but the experience won’t be considered a failure.

For starters, the games do not count in any standings. The Red Devils also could become a better team because of the lumps they’re taking this summer.

“They’re getting experience,” Verbena coach Jonathan Shedd said. “That’s the most important thing right now.”

Verbena hosted B.B. Comer, Chelsea, Holtville, Oak Grove and Marbury for practice games.

The Red Devils lost all three of their contests, but Shedd said he is already seeing improvement. Verbena fell to Oak Grove by a 45-41 score, for example, after losing to the same team by almost 50 points during the season.

Forward Brad Boswell was good for 22 points in the loss to Oak Grove. The senior-to-be connected on six 3-pointers and was 4-for-6 from the free throw line.

Verbena will host another “play day” beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday.
