Summer camp at the Chilton County YMCA is a little more fun this year because it includes swimming.

After being closed last summer because of repairs, the Clanton city swimming pool reopened on June 1 under the authority of the YMCA.

Campers swim from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., then the public can swim until 4 p.m. for $3 a person. Public swims are also held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

“We’ve had a lot of people showing up every afternoon,” YMCA director Rachel McKinnon said.

Summer camp lasts from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and lasts through August 7. Those interested can still register by visiting the Y.

At the pool, parties can be scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Slots for June and July are still available.

Swim lesson time slots are available at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Lessons cost $50 for members and $70 for non-members and last two weeks.

The YMCA this summer is also hosting gymnastics and karate classes that are still open for registration.

The gymnastics program lasts for two months and includes tumbling classes. Different skill levels meet on different days and times, but each level meets once a week.

Gymnastics registration starts at $25 for members and $45 for non-members for pre-schoolers, and prices increase from there.

Karate classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. Registration costs $50 for members and $70 non-members.
