This is my fourth article in a series on the theme “Simple Truth about the Devil” and it relates to God’s judgment upon the Devil and those who are deceived by him.

It is impossible to seek to take the place of God in one’s life and escape the judgment of God. But from our earliest Bible information about the Devil we discover his efforts to exalt himself above God and to displace God in the lives of others. Somehow this happened in heaven where the devil was a servant of God and is described by prophets as they wrote with double meaning by the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 14:12-14 and Ezekiel 28:12-15).

God’s judgment came upon the Devil and he was cast from heaven. Jesus confirmed this by saying, “I saw Satan like lightening fall from heaven” (Luke 10:18). The Apostle Peter confirmed this by writing, “God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment” (2 Peter 2:4 NIV). Paul confirms that God’s judgment came upon the devil because he became conceited (1 Timothy 3:6). The Apostle John confirms God’s judgment upon the devil in that he and his demons were cast out of heaven (Revelation 12:7-9).

God’s judgment was pronounced upon Satan in the Garden of Eden after his successful effort to become god in the life of Adam and Eve. Immediate judgment was that the Serpent would crawl upon his belly in the dust. Eventual judgment was that the eternal deathblow would be struck by Jesus Christ as he died on the cross and rose from the dead (Genesis 3:14:15).

When the hour had come for the Lord Jesus to die his sacrificial death for sinners on the cross, He said, “Now shall the prince of this world be cast out” (John 12:31). Again He said, “The Holy Spirit will convince the world in regards to judgment because the prince of this world now stands condemned” (John 16:11).

The Bible gives a simple and somber description concerning judgment which is ahead for the Devil and his demons. The Devil is filled with fury throughout the earth because he knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12).

During the ministry of Jesus on earth, demon possessed persons did two things consistently: they confessed that they knew that Jesus was the very Son of God with Power and they confessed that they knew God’s judgment of torment was ahead of them (Matthew 8:28-29).

Consider one description in Matthew 25:41, “into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.”
