MONTGOMERY – The Maplesville softball team was maybe one year ahead of schedule in making the Class 1A state softball tournament, but the Red Devils made a go of it anyway.

A Maplesville team with only one senior, third baseman Bridget Nichols, lost its first two games of the tournament Friday and was eliminated.

But the young Devils were competitive in both contests, falling 4-1 to Spring Garden and 4-2 to Pleasant Home.

“I think it was a great experience for the girls,” coach Ashlie Harrison said. “I hope the confidence we gained [Friday] carries over into next year.”
