The following is a letter sent to the parents of elementary school children Tuesday afternoon, referencing the tragic death of 9-year-old Lacey Nance:

Dear Parents,

As you know we had a tragedy happen to a classmate. Lacey Nance was a fourth grader at Verbena in Mrs. (Lynn) Hauswirth’s classroom. Lacey was riding her bike near her home after school yesterday (May 11) and was hit by someone and killed instantly. We had counselors and teachers in our classes today (May 12) available for any one who needed the help.

At the request, from the family, we as a community would like to take a love offering to pay for the expenses of her funeral. If you would like to donate money send it to Mrs. Hauswirth or Mrs. (Ruth) Easterling or the school and we will make sure Martins Funeral Home receives the money we collect.

Tomorrow (May 13) would have been Lacey’s 10th birthday. In honor of Lacey we would like to have a special birthday party during snack to remember her. A volunteer will bring a cake for the fourth graders. You may send any party foods to share with the class tomorrow by 1:30. We will do this during our snack time.

As gifts, we ask that you send your money donations for Lacey’s family. You may want to send a sympathy card as well.

If your child still needs to talk to someone let us know and we will have a counselor available.

Thank you for your love and support. Please keep this family in your prayers and thoughts.

The Nance family is being provided food by Chestnut Creek Baptist Church tonight (May 12). We are sure food would be appreciated if you choose to send it to their home.

Funeral arrangements have not been made yet. We will let you know as soon as we know.

Thank you,

Fourth Grade Teachers

Mrs. Hauswirth and Mrs. Easterling
