Jemison catcher Tanya Liveoak damaged some teeth after running into a protective fence before Tuesday’s crucial Class 4A, Area 7 tournament softball game against Calera.

But Liveoak insisted on playing, and then recorded a run-scoring double in the fifth inning of a 2-1 win that ensured Jemison a berth in the regional round of the state tournament Friday.

“I’m sitting here amazed because the kid is tough as nails,” coach Leighsa Robinson said.

Liveoak’s double scored Shelby Lopez, who also took home on a wild pitch for the game winning run in the top of the eighth inning.

Tabatha Cork, the winning pitcher, allowed one unearned run on seven hits in seven innings while striking out four.

The Panthers fell to tournament host Bibb County, 6-0, in the championship game.

Jemison pitcher Dallis Vanderslice allowed only one earned run to a team that mercy ruled the Panthers in their other meetings this season.
